Hidden in Plain sight – how to recognise Hate Crime

This training takes place over 2 sessions. Part 1 is on Tuesday 2nd February and Part 2 is on Thursday 18th February.

You should attend both sessions.

Times for both sessions: 11am to 1pm, with regular breaks. Fully accessible, with BSL interpreters, captioning and palantypist.

Who can attend?

This series of online training sessions is aimed at all London Borough DDPOs (staff, volunteers and managers) of any frontline service for Disabled people.

Overview: Two sessions looking at how hate crime against Disabled people can be ignored, the impact minimised and situations misunderstood, and how this impacts a victim or survivor getting support and positive outcomes. Hate crime against Disabled people can often start as anti-social behaviour (ASB) or an adult safeguarding issue and then escalate to serious hate crime. A Disabled person may also not recognise their experience as a hate crime or incident. This training will enable you to recognise and uncover potential hate crime cases, support a Disabled person to lower the risk to themselves, to achieve the outcomes they want, and to challenge decisions made by other services (for example; housing authorities, social services or the police).
