Online Conference: When Words Alone Are Not Enough – Exploring the Impact of Hate Crime

Hate crime is on the increase in the UK and the impact of these crimes can leave deep emotional (and physical) wounds not only for the victim, but also their families and the wider community.
When we got together as a team to decide the theme of this years conference, we were drawn to this important and emotive topic as a way to shine a light on this growing issue and to empower counsellors to be able to confidently…
- Recognise a hate crime
- Support clients to explore their experience of being a victim of hate crime
- Support clients to report a hate crime
- Gain a deeper understanding of the impact of hate crime on survivors, their loved ones and the community
We reached out to speakers and organisations who have been advocating for change, supporting survivors and sharing their powerful stories around their own personal experiences and professional work.
We aim to come together as counsellors to bear witness to the stories, to learn from each other and to explore our own reflections as we deepen our understanding in this area.
We will have plenty of rest breaks and will finish the day with a creative reflective exercise where we invite you to bring some symbols to represent the “Diverse You”.
