Monday 3 – Thursday 6 July 2023, Lille, France

The second international conference invites participants to explore the causes, forms and cultures of gender-based violence in society, including how children are educated, how Games and Art promote gender differences/stereotypes/neutrality. It is a place to reflect on the growing importance of tolerance, diversity, and acceptance of others.

The second international conference invites participants to explore the causes, forms and cultures of gender-based violence in society, including how children are educated, how Games and Art promote gender differences/stereotypes/neutrality. It is a place to reflect on the growing importance of tolerance, diversity, and acceptance of others.

Our approach is therefore divided into 5 key steps :

1- Identifying the chains of interaction by highlighting the material and psychological effects assumed in gender discrimination,

2- Describing these chains of interaction in academic, professional, legislative contexts and in the use of social networks in detail,

3- Historicizing narratives, concepts and categories of gender equality/equity and gender discrimination,

4- Revealing cultural meanings ascribed to specific practices in a defined space-time,

5- Delimiting political rationales behind the struggle against gender-based discrimination.

We want to explore the causes, forms and cultures of gender-based violence in society, including how children are brought up, how games and art promote gender differences/stereotypes/neutrality. It is a place of reflection on the growing importance of tolerance, diversity and acceptance of others.

We will welcome a variety of disciplinary perspectives in the humanities and social sciences, as well as interdisciplinary, intersectional and critical approaches. The axes we have selected are the following:

  • Perpetuation of gender stereotypes: causes, forms and culture of sexism in society, education (e.g. textbooks), games and art, etc.
  • Possible links between cultural representations and violence against women
  • Masculinist movements vs. Feminist movements: gender ideology in society
  • Violation of Human Rights:
    • European court of human rights
    • European convention of human rights
    • Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence
    • Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, etc.
  • Combat gender stereotypes and promote tolerance
  • Countering online and/or offline sexism in hate speech
  • Analyze the role of social networks: places of Machiavellian release, hater, troll, etc.
  • Coping with Trauma, Fear, Anxiety, and Mental Issues Under Normal Conditions, Before and After COVID-19
  • Silence part of the population: intimidation, threats or abuse, etc.
  • Discuss the legal and policy framework to address gender-based violence
  • Ensuring women’s equal access to justice
  • Promoting freedom, equality and parity – positive actions
  • Mainstreaming gender: discussion on freedom of expression
