Centre for Law and Social Justice Launch Webinar
Wednesday 4 October 2023, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm BST, online (UK)
Join us on Wednesday 4th October for an online event which will bring together some exciting speakers in a conversation about the contemporary context of law and social justice, future research-led priorities, and the role of law in delivering positive change in social justice. We will also be providing more information on our upcoming opportunity to apply for funding to establish a Centre for Law and Social Justice, including a chance for applicants to ask us questions.
In the first half we’ll hear from speakers including the Right Honourable the Baroness Hale of Richmond and the Baroness Lister of Bertersett and Professor Ambreena Manji before holding a panel discussion where you will have the opportunity to ask questions. We will then have a short break before presenting the funding opportunity details, outlining our ambitions for the Centre and how it will bridge the gap between written law and law in practice, and what we expect to see in applications. The final half an hour is dedicated to answering your questions, which you can submit when registering or on the day.
Background
Legal research is central not only to AHRC’s ambitions, where it cuts across all six areas of our theory of change, but is also essential to addressing many of the challenges we face today. The theme of ‘social justice’, encompassing many contemporary societal challenges, has emerged from our engagement with the sector as an area we can helpfully invest in to support our research communities and have a positive impact on people’s lives.
The investment in a Centre for Law and Social Justice is very much about building up together from the strong foundation of the discipline as it is, bringing the arts and humanities together with the social sciences to address contemporary challenges.
