BSC HCN Meet the Author Virtual Discussion – Disability, Gender, Bodies and Boundaries How Disabled Women Experience Ableist Intrusions

Wednesday 25 February 2026, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm GMT, online (UK)

Join us on Wednesday 25 February 2026, 1:00–2:00 pm GMT (online) for a presentation + Q&A on Disability, Gender, Bodies and Boundaries: How Disabled Women Experience Ableist Intrusions with Dr Hannah Mason-Bish.

About the Book
In this deeply empirical and theoretically rich volume, Dr Hannah Mason-Bish develops the concept of ableist intrusions to explore how disabled women (and non-binary people) experience unwanted touching, intrusive questions and boundaries being violated in daily life. Blending feminist disability studies and intersectional perspectives, the work draws on interviews and narratives from over 70 participants to highlight how gender, disability, and societal norms shape experiences of intrusion and embodiment.

About the Author
Hannah Mason-Bish is Associate Professor in Criminology and Sociology at the University of Sussex, UK. Over the past 15 years, she has built a strong reputation in the field of hate crime policy, particularly in spotlighting how gender and disability intersect in experiences of victimisation and harm.

What to Expect in the Session

  • A presentation of key concepts from the book
  • A curated Q&A moderated by the host
  • Opportunity for the audience to ask their own questions and engage in discussion

We invite scholars, activists, students, practitioners, and anyone with interest in disability studies, gendered violence, embodiment, and feminist justice to join us for what promises to be a vital conversation.
