Lecture – 1984 – The year of Anti-Racism: Then and Now

Wednesday 17 September 2025, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm BST, London, UK

Join us for a free lecture exploring the anti-racist posters of the Greater London Council (GLC) from 1984, to coincide with a temporary display of the posters at The London Archives. Dr Sarah El-Taki reflects on her experience using The London Archives and how it shaped her research on anti-racist posters.

Dr El-Taki explores how our understanding of anti-racism over time requires us to reconsider how we interpret these messages today. What can these posters reveal about the shifting dynamics of activism, policy, and representation across decades? Drawing on her academic career, this talk offers fresh insights into the power of political design and its enduring impact on the evolving landscape of anti-racist discourse.
