The Sound of Trans Freedom

Join LSE Library and Aunt Nell for an evening presenting the artistic responses of a group of trans sound artists to the Press for Change archives. The Sound of Trans Freedom takes you on an audio journey into the archive of this formative lobbying group, responding to and inspired by letters from trans people reaching out for support and help in the 90s and early 00s.
The artists are Jesse Lawson, Kamari Romeo, naafi and Tom Sayers. Mixed and mastered by Arlie Adlington.
Produced by Tash Walker for Aunt Nell through the power of trans imaginations, this piece looks back into our trans histories whilst holding space for what we are fighting for when it comes to trans rights today, a world that should hold space for trans people to not just survive but thrive.
Aunt Nell is a production company that works across time to honour voices that are excluded from history—and shape stories that reimagine the future.
The evening will consist of a panel talk with Tash Walker featuring Stephen Whittle and some of the artists, and the opportunity to listen to The Sound of Trans Freedom.
Materials from the Press for Change archive held at LSE Library will also be on display for attendees to view.
The British Library of Political and Economic Science (@LSELibrary) was founded in 1896, a year after the London School of Economics and Political Science. It has been based in the Lionel Robbins Building since 1978 and houses many world class collections, including the Women’s Library and Hall-Carpenter Archives.
