HEAR event: Working together against hate crime
HEAR, London’s pan equality network, is holding an event to help our members work together to improve responses to Hate Crime in London. Hate Crime is something that can potentially affect everyone, and impacts across all the different equalities characteristics, including those that are not included in current legislation.
It is an issue that is ‘intersectional’, for example Muslim women, black disabled people, bisexual mental health service users are at increased risk of experiencing incidents of bullying and abuse.
Hate Crime is also on the rise, and can be linked to current social and political policy issues, for example welfare benefits policy and immigration/refugee crisis. This is why HEAR members are Working Together against Hate Crime and why HEAR has organised this day conference jointly between our London for All and Policy and Campaigns projects. The morning will be an opportunity to hear about successful projects and case studies, speak to police, safeguarding and other public services that are responsible for responses to hate crime and network with colleagues in the sector. The afternoon, for voluntary sector colleagues only, will be a ‘safe space’ for us to workshop ways to work together to improve responses to Hate Crime.
