Addressing hate crime with Sylvia Lancaster

Wednesday 29 April 2015, 2pm, University of Hull, Scarborough Campus Conference Centre

Sophie Lancaster was a young woman who liked to dress as a Goth. She was the subject of a brutal attack for no other reason that she looked ‘different’. Following her horrific murder, her family wanted to ensure a lasting legacy to their beautiful, bright, creative daughter and so The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was established and became a registered charity in 2009.

The aims and objectives of the charity are to:

  • Challenge the prejudice and intolerance towards people from alternative subcultures
  • Campaign to have the UK Hate Crime Legislation extended to include people from alternative subcultures or lifestyle and dress
  • Create a lasting legacy to Sophie

On Wednesday 29 April, Sophie’s mum, Sylvia Lancaster OBE will be on campus to share her story.
