Conference on ‘Race in Probation’ – June 5th

Race in Probation. Achieving Better Outcomes for Black and Minority Ethnic Users: A London Case Study’ is a free event organised by London Probation Trust with IARS in the hope that further progress can be made for race equality in the criminal justice field.

About the event:

20 years after Stephen Lawrence’s murder and this timely event, held by IARS and the London Probation Trust, will launch the findings of a new research programme focusing on how outcomes for black and minority ethnic (BME) users of probation can be improved. The event will launch IARS’ new book ‘Race in Probation’ by Professor Theo Gavrielides, founder and Director of IARS. The event will also launch the publication of London Probation Trust’s flier on the Stephen Lawrence Legacy.

Event speakers include: Professor Rod Morgan, renowned criminologist and Professor Emeritus of Criminal Justice at the University of Bristol, Professor Theo Gavrielides, Helen Grant MP (tbc) Minister for Courts and Victims, Heather Munro, the Chief Executive of London Probation Trust and Doreen Lawrence (tbc)mother of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence and founder of the Stephen Lawrence Trust.

There will also be a chance to question a number of experts in a ‘Question Time’ style panel. Panelists include: Ian Lawrence (NAPO’s Acting General Secretary), Elena Noel (Empowering People for Excellence), Tracy Ford (JAGS Foundation), Dr. Elaine Arnull (Bucks New University) and Delphine Duff (LPT).

The event will be held in the specacular setting of Lincoln’s Inn in central London. In addition, lunch and refreshments will be provided and there will be a chance to network following the presentations and debate at a wine reception.

The event takes place in London from 12pm to 5.20pm on Friday 5 June.
