Addressing the Social Exclusion of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities to Reduce Inequalities

This Policy Knowledge event will provide delegates with an opportunity to discuss how support can be improved for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities, helping them to access essential services and reducing cases of exclusion and hate crime. Leading experts will be debating one of the largest disadvantaged groups and how health, education and living spaces fo the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities can be handled to make sure they are not excluded from society.

Overall the event will examine:

  • The Race Relation Amendment Act 2000, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the protection of GRT rights;
  • Law enforcement: Easing relations between the police and gypsy, roma and traveller communities;
  • Health inequalities: Improving access to healthcare services and tackling social determinants; and
  • Panel discussion: Educational inequalities – raising the attainment rates of gypsy, roma and traveller children.
