Hate in Houston: A Virtual Discussion on Hate and Hate Crimes in our Community

Thursday 10 December 2020, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm CST, online (US)

Over the past four years, discrimination, hate, and White supremacist ideology have shifted from the fringes of society to the mainstream. Yet on paper, Houston’s hate crime numbers are astonishingly low for a city of its size.

Join Houston Coalition Against Hate for a virtual discussion about its first research report, “Hate in Houston: A Study of Hate Crimes and Hate Incidents in the city of Houston, Texas.” The report examines the primary reasons why hate crimes go underreported in Houston and elsewhere and offers suggestions for improvement.

Our panelists have experienced identity-based hate first-hand and working diligently to make the Houston area a safer place for all. The panel will be moderated by HCAH Executive Director Marjorie Joseph. Speakers include:

– Fort Bend County Judge K.P. George

– Harrison Guy, Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation

– Sarah Haider, Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom

This event will be broadcast LIVE on HCAH’s Facebook page.
