Tackling Hate Crime Seminar

Wednesday 16 October 2019, 10:00-15:00 BST, Halifax, UK

The purpose of the seminar is to aid understanding of what constitutes a hate crime, the impact that such crimes have on the victim, their family and the wider community. Delegates will also be provided an opportunity to attend a number of workshops facilitated by practitioners covering strands of hate crime.

Our keynote speaker is Sylvia Lancaster, mother of Sophie Lancaster who was murdered in Rossendale in 2007 due to her lifestyle choice. Sylvia was awarded an OBE for her work on Community Cohesion and tackling hate crime through education, not just in schools, but within professional organisations including the police, housing and hate crime partnerships. Other speakers include Paul Giannasi, National Police Hate Crime Advisor as well as Gerry Wareham, Chief Crown Prosecutor, Yorkshire & Humber Crown Prosecution Service.
