Virtual Discussion – Researching Within Hate Studies: Discussion Group for PGRs & ECRs

Wednesday 6 October 2021, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm BST, online (UK)

We are delighted to welcome Jeanette and Lauren Manning, authors of ‘Walking Away From Hate: Our Journey through Extremism’ for an informal discussion about the process of radicalisation, misogyny and white supremacy.

Recently released in the UK, the book tells the story of Lauren—a teenager from a typical middle-class family who ends up living on the streets as part of a white power ‘crew’—and her mother Jeanette, who fought to bring her daughter home. More information is available on our website: https://www.tidewaterpress.ca/walking-away-from-hate/. The book trailer is available here: Link and you can follow their Facebook page here

Lauren now works as an outreach worker with Life After Hate, where she helps other leave extremism. She and her mother welcome opportunities to share their story as part of the global anti-hate initiative. Their stories, combined with a rare female perspective, offer a unique and insightful opportunity for discussion among our PGR/ECR community.
